Who We Are
Custom Cavalry is a veteran‑owned engraving and woodworking studio based in Independence, Missouri. What started as small woodworking projects has grown into a full creative workshop specializing in personalized gifts for military, corporate, and everyday customers. Every piece is built with precision, pride, and a commitment to quality.
I’m Jim — craftsman, designer, and former Cavalry Scout. I enlisted in 1986 as a 19D Armored Reconnaissance Specialist (Cavalry Scout), serving in the 1st Armored Division in Germany and later in the 1st Infantry Division (“Big Red One”) at Fort Riley. My time in service taught me discipline, attention to detail, and the value of creating something that lasts.
During Desert Storm, an injury reassigned me from Bradley gunner to the Commander’s driver. That change opened the door to cross‑training in building maintenance and carpentry. The spark that eventually led to Custom Cavalry.
From Service to Craftsmanship
The skills I learned in the Army shaped the way I work today: precision from the Bradley, discipline from the field, pride from the Cavalry, and creativity from the workshop. What began as handmade gifts for fellow Scouts grew into a business creating custom pieces for anyone looking for something meaningful, personal, and built to last.
